INCEPTION
The idea for the ELACP project was conceived by a group of Londoners who are involved in education in the United Kingdom. All of them were educated in the British school system, from primary and secondary school to college and university. The English Language and Culture Programme (ELACP) evolved from their idea to merge the experience of the English school camp with English Language tuition and cultural exchange between the UK and other countries.
Within Europe, Great Britain has its own unique culture, a mix of traditional old English customs with modern multicultural influences. This is reflected in the varied background and dialects of its population. Diversity is valued in the UK, especially in London, and we hope to share this cultural diversity with students who join the ELACP Programme. We welcome students of all religions and cultures, and encourage them to share their beliefs and experiences with other students, to encourage tolerance and to instil a better understanding of the World.
We have a dedicated and enthusiastic team, with qualified native English Language teachers, supported by tutors, classroom assistants and activities leaders. All our staff are carefully selected, and all must obtain a clear criminal record and background check before they are employed on the programme.
PROGRESS
Our first camp opened in 2013 in the mountain resort of Pamporovo, Bulgaria. We welcomed a group of 35 students and their group leaders to the camp for one week. In 2015, we started the four week seaside camp in Varna, Bulgaria. By popular request by some of our Turkish students, ELACP started Summer 2017 in Istanbul, Turkey. The first cohort of students participated in the London programme in 2019. In co-operation with our partners, we now offer all year round English classes and British school integration to international students.
We take great pride in the fact that some students have attended our summer camps for several consecutive years. Some first attended while at primary school and have now gone on to higher education. These students still remain in contact with our programme, and some are now participating as trainee camp leaders and classroom assistants.
INITIATIVES
As part of our Best Students prize initiative, we have welcomed diverse students and their guardians to London for 7 consecutive years. The prize for the winning student is a trophy, plus an all expenses paid trip for two to London, UK, with guided tours around the city. The students were able to experience first-hand the vibrant atmosphere of London, and to practice their English speaking skills.
We have successfully co-operated with education agents and school groups in several countries. We endeavour to design our programmes to suit our clients’ specific requirements. We are always open to suggestions and special requests. We respect cultural differences. Clients are welcome to inspect our camp venues during the year, by prior appointment.
For the near future, we are plan to expand the programme to other locations in Europe, Africa and the Americas.
